Recent video- installations in galleries and exterior agricultural locations have used a variety of approaches to explore rural imagery with a particular focus on human/ animal relationships and a contemporary depiction of places where food is produced.
The palpable experience of physically visiting and moving round a particular place made site-specific video- installations an appropriate strategy to counter a perceived split between the rural context, and perceptions of it from an urban perspective. In addition, the use of new media provided a challenge to audience expectations about rural art, and temporary work could be sited in sensitive environmental sites.
